2nd XV Match Report
Dinbych Seconds 8 points Ruthin Seconds 51 points
3rd March 2012
Ruthin were on the attack from the kick off and it wasn’t long before Dinbych gave away a soft try to the visitors as a result of indecision and poor tackling. With Dinbych’s halfback combination unavailable to play there were big changes in their defensive back line which they could have done without . Dinbych’s pack stood up to the experienced Ruthin pack and competed well at the rucks with some outstanding play by Dinbych’s back row who were up for the challenge and their front 5 gave nothing away in the scrummaging but didn’t have the answer to some great breaking runs from an obviously experienced number 8 for Ruthin. These allowed the visitors to run in another 2 converted tries before half time with Dinbych securing 3 points from a penalty by skipper David Perkins but the game was brought to a halt 5 minutes before half time with Ruthin ‘s winger suffering a broken leg in a tackle which held the game up for half an hour until an ambulance arrived .
Play was resumed for the 2nd half after a long break with Ruthin having a comfortable lead 21-3 although Dinbych played well and the pack had the measure of their forwards halting Ruthin with some crunching tackles by the back row of Gareth Hughes, Gareth Thomas and Gareth Price. However when Ruthin opened play up with their backs Dinbych didn’t have the answer with a totally dis-jointed back line missing tackles which at times made it easy for the visitors who ran in several more tries . Dinbych were rewarded with a great interception from Perkins to run in from outside Ruthins 22 out pacing their backs to score in the corner leaving the final score at Dinbych 8 Ruthin 51. Despite the score line Dinbych players held their heads up high through out the whole game and battled to the end .
It would have been difficult to name a single man of the match today as there would have been two after outstanding performances by flanker Gareth Thomas and No 8 Gareth Hughes.
