2nd XV Match Report
Mold Seconds 76 points Dinbych Seconds 10 points
10th September 2011
After their convincing victory over Colwyn Bay the previous week it was disappointing that Dinbych travelled to Mold with depleted numbers after late drop outs and were forced to start the game against one of the strongest teams in the division with only fourteen men . They then suffered injuries during the match reducing them to only thirteen before the second half when hooker Ivor Williams was forced to retire. They nevertheless played with great spirit throughout but could not stop Mold making full use of their superior numbers to create overlaps in the backs and pile up the score.
The Dinbych forwards started well and soon got on top in the scrums and it took Mold more than ten minutes before they could make their numerical advantage tell when their backs broke through for their first converted try. The Dinbych pack continued to dominate Mold up front and were rewarded when flanker Dave Roberts broke through from near halfway before offloading in a tackle inside the 22 for Peter Shoesmith to cross for his first try in senior rugby. Mold however used their extra man to good effect and by half time had built up a twenty five points to five lead.
Despite having to start the second half with thirteen the Dinbych forwards continued to dominate up front but as soon as Mold gained possession they used their advantage in the backs to create the overlaps and build up the score. Dinbych did not go down without a fight and got some reward for their efforts ten minutes from the end when Matt Arnold picked up at the base of a scrum on half way to smash his way through the Mold backs before offloading to the supporting Dave Roberts on the 22 to cross for an unconverted try.
Next Saturday Dinbych are away at Colwyn Bay.
